History

In 1958, tragedy struck George Carl Hillenbrand, also known as  “Uncle George.” A horrendous fire tore through his Pony Farm in Greensburg, Indiana, decimating his prized stock of thoroughbred trotters and ponies. In 1960, Uncle George and his wife, “Aunt Peg,”decided to rebuild the Pony Farm. The same vision and foresight that made Uncle George one of America’s greatest industrial engineers was put into building “Walhill Farm,”15 miles south of his first farm, on the outskirts of Batesville, Indiana. Today, Walhill Farm stands as a testament to his strength and character. So, come inside and learn a little bit about this Southern Indiana legend and the fulfillment of his dream.

Walhill Farm Today

Located between Cincinnati, OH and Indianapolis, Indiana,  Walhill Farm has become an award-winning restaurant, a popular event center, a butcher shop, and a sustainable working farm.  Every aspect of Walhill’s multifaceted business is focused on local, sustainable, humane and just plain ol’ wonderful.  Walhill offers tremendous opportunities for weddings, businesses, and assorted gatherings of friends.  The 250-acre farm holds 26 acres of hardwood forest, 10 acres of gardens, 3 large fish ponds, and 190 acres of pasture. 

Besides stunning scenery, Walhill Farm is well-known for its unique wedding and event venues. The Barn, a former horse barn converted to an event space, comfortably holds up to 550 party-goers. We’re also famous for The Sulky Lodge (pictured left), a “Bavarian-style” lodge that was one a chicken coop. This is the event space where we host smaller wedding receptions, off-site corporate meetings, and other events.
